Well we all know the year is starting to wrap up , and if you are like the many around the country ( even one of our staff) you would be coming to the point of the year when you are looking at graduation.
Now everyone sits there and gets their hair done and gets the old nails done and get the make up put on but what about your face and your skin , No use painting on the cover if your skin doesnt look good before and after. If you are like us here at SuperfoodsNZ most of the time you would rather let your natural beauty shin through. But if you like to wear the make up this is also great too.
One good thing you can do before is a good face pampering .
I am going to mention two ways of doing a good face mask this is because I have used both myself and I can give you some personal feed back on it.
The first one is our
This one is great if you have only a few minutes , I found I felt invigorated afterwards .
Basically you open the container , Apply a thin layer to your face ( not to thick as this is wasting the product) , Make sure you avoid your eye area , Lit it sit for 5-10 minutes and then wash off , I personally washed mine off with just some nice WARM water ( not to hot as your face can be sensitive ) and used a nice soft face cloth. Oh I was tickled pink with the outcome . Now don’t stress if your face looks a little red or pink this is normal and its because the mask has help remove the impurities on your skin. Now once i have cleaned off all the Mask I apply a good quality Moisturizer to my skin the one i personally use is Stoney Brookes Body Lotion , But if you have Oily skin naturally you dont want to do this step
The Second Face Mask I have used is one that I make myself
DIY BENTONITE CLAY MASK
I apply this mask daily and leave it on for about 1 hour, which is probably longer than most leave it on, but it has been working great for me doing it this way. I’ve noticed such a great improvement in my skin in just a week of using it daily!
Many use the mask just a few times a week or once a week and have great results. But, if it’s your first time applying a bentonite clay mask, I would start out with doing it once a week and see how your skin responds, as it is quite powerful and this way you can work your way up to using it daily!
Ingredients/What You’ll Need:
- 1 teaspoon bentonite clay
- 1 teaspoon water or apple cider vinegar
- Optional: a cup or bowl and a spoon to mix them
*If you use a spoon to mix them, make sure it isn’t metal because this causes metals to leach from the spoon into the clay, making the clay not as effective. I personally use a large wooden iceblock stick to do my mixing and then use this to apply the mask as it does make things easier .
1. Take about 1 teaspoon of the bentonite clay powder and about 1 teaspoon of water or apple cider vinegar and put it in a bowl or cup. ( if you are not using a bowl you can mix this directly in your hand and then apply to your face)
Note: You can use water or ACV as a liquid for the mask. The ACV tends to make the mask a little more powerful on your skin, so if you have sensitive skin or this is your first time trying the mask you may want to use water (which is what I use).
2. Mix the two ingredients well, until it forms a paste consistency. You can add a little more water or a little more powder, if the consistency doesn’t seem like it will easily spread on your face.
3. Apply the bentonite clay mask to your face. Some people also spread it down their neck and upper chest, too. I use my wooden stirring stick but some use their fingers, a cotton ball or cosmetic sponge also works great.
4. Leave the mask on for about 20 to 30 minutes. I usually end up leaving mine on for an hour because I apply it fairly thick and it does take about 15 minutes to just dry. As the mask dries, your face will start to feel tight.
Optional Extra : you can sit back and relax at this stage and set a timer and put cucumber rings over your eyes . I know some that apply the mask just before they hop in to a nice relaxing bath for a soak and they lay back and put the cucumber rings on their eyes.
5. Rinse off the mask using just water. You may have to gently scrub a little with your fingers to get it off. It tends to try to stick to your skin. I personally use the same method as the black pore mask and use the warm water and a soft face cloth.
After you rinse the mask off, your skin may look a little pink for a few minutes. This usually happens to everyone after using the mask because the clay increases blood flow to your face as it pulls out toxins.
For Those With Sensitive Skin:
If you have sensitive skin, apply a thinner layer and leave the mask on for a shorter time. Then increase the frequency and how long you leave it on depending on how your skin feels.
Now for those who don’t have oily skin you can now apply a nice moisturizer to your face as in the other mask.
Looking after your skin
A good way to keep your skin looking good is to have a good toner that you use after cleaning your face each day , The one that I use is the Witch Hazel Toner . Witch Hazel helps to tighten pores, and to smooth and beautify skin without drying.
You can use a good Moisturizer on your face, The one i use is the Stoney Brooks Moisturizer but you can use your normal one , especially if you are out in the sun or in an office that runs a lot of air conditioning , Another good product i use is Pure Red Raspberry Seed Oil
pure Red Raspberry Seed Oil is high in vitamin E to moisturize the skin and help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to hydrate the hair and scalp. It contains one of the highest anti-oxidant and phytoterols content of any of the vegetable/fruit oils, making it an excellent addition to your natural sun care products. Apply Directly to skin to soften and moisturize. Can also add a few drops to your favourite shampoo, conditioner, Sun block or body lotion for extra benefits.
Now if you are getting stressed and nervous about your big day one thing you can try is what many others have tried and have had success with.
No I am not talking about picturing the crowd naked … If you are anything like me that would make you sick not less nervous ….
The thing I use when stressed or nervous or scared is Rescue Remedy , Now we have some Great Dropper bottle type rescue remedy or we have the Lozenge type. Just make sure you don’t get the fatigue one as that can make you sleepy. Unless you want to use it after the big event
The convenience of the lozenge type is you can have it in your hand bag or school bag and take one and you don’t have to worry about spillage. I use both types . Now when I need to take it on the day , I first take one dose from the Dropper type in the morning ( helps with those early morning butterflies) , And then about 20 minutes before whole I have to get up and do my thing I pop a lozenge in my mouth and It helps.
Or if you want a more PERSONAL mix we also do the Bach Flower mix , This mix is made personally for you from your choice of up to 7 flowers from a bunch of flowers . Its amazing and is great to help you on those sorts of day , especially the stressful ones like Graduation.
